New Online Store!

Boddington Swimming Club now has an online store! Our Webmaster, Julie Nitz, has been working on this project for the last few weeks with the help of Rob and Karen Vlastuin.

Our club hopes this store will bring in a cashless system when signing up for memberships, swim school lessons and purchasing club apparel. The store currently accepts credit / debit cards.  If you wish to order via bank deposit or cheque, a registration pack can be emailed by request. Apparel ordered online will be available for collection from the Boddington Swimming Pool at a mutually agreed time.

As with any new technology, there may be teething problems however these will be promptly attended to should they arise; we therefore welcome your feedback during this exciting rollout period.

We look forward to seeing club registrations and apparel orders roll in soon!

Kalgoorlie Swimming Club hosted their annual Kalgoorlie Boulder Crusher Short Course Meet over the weekend of 9th and 10th July 2016.

The swim meet was well supported by both metro swimming clubs and regional swimming clubs. Perth City, South Shore Swimming Club, Arena Swimming Club and Southside Penrhos Wesley attended from the metro area as well as regional clubs from Esperance, Kambalda, Pinjarra and Waroona.

The Boddington trio swam a total of 22 events over the weekend resulting in 22 personal best times, 18 state qualifying times and 13 medals in total including six gold medals.

Boddington head coach Karen Vlastuin was elated by the results, the highlight being the fact that Boddington Swimming Club has a new state qualifier in Caleb Vlastuin. In addition, Calia and Izak were nominated as being in the top 5 overall swimmers of the meet across all age groups.

Caleb will join his brother Izak and sister Calia in representing Boddington at the West Australian Junior Short Course Championships to be held in September 2016.

Boddington Swimming Club now has 5 state swimming representatives in the 2016/2017 season, as Krosby and Kele Readhead also represented Boddington at the West Australian Junior Long course Championships held in April 2016.

Congratulations to the Vlastuin family on their recent success.

Coach Report 2015/16 Summer Season

Its been a very full season. On a personal level it has been challenging.

Highlights?

There have been so many.

• Watching you all train hard and improve your technique.

• Hearing the groans when asked to do a specific session and the smiles when you realise you

have completed it!

• Seeing some awesome PB’s.

• Working with new coaches – Thank you for volunteering your time!

The Work?

• Close to 175 training sessions have been planned and delivered.

• These sessions have covered around 265km of swimming (for the kids and walking for me!)

• There have been over 200 hours of coaching time – not including preparation time and the

swim school.

• We have also attended coaching clinics with Olympic and international coaches.

• Attended Technical Officials training and pool-side learning for accreditation.

• Been volunteer Team Manager/Coach for the 10&U Aussie team at an international event.

The Achievements?

• Youngest competitive swimmer 7 and oldest 45.

• Fantastic results at the school and interschool carnivals.

• Boddington has been represented at 12 swim meets by a total of 26 competitive swimmers.

(I’ve only missed one of those).

• Our team of 22 athletes worked together to achieve runner-up in D Division at Country

Pennants. Our best result so far.

• We have had 2 swimmers represent Australia at the Indian Ocean All Stars meet in Perth.

• Although this is our windup, we have one more swim meet to go. This year we have 4

athletes who will represent Boddington at the 2016 Junior LC State Championships.

• We also have 8 swimmers taking advantage of a special clinic being held in April school

holidays to further improve their swimming with the help of top WA coaches.

Time now to re-group, study and plan for an even better delivery next season. If you have any

feedback, positive or negative, I would love to hear it.

Hard work? Yes

Worth it? Absolutely!

Will you plan to be part of it next summer?

2016 End of Season President's Report

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

What a great season Boddington swimming club has had to date. We have had so many highlights it is hard to know where to begin.

Our registration numbers to date are at 75; of these 75 we have approximately 25 competitive members.

Support from the Boddington Shire has been tremendous and a special mention must go to Grant Bartle for his help and guidance in various matters this season.

A special thank you to our patron, Toni Collins, for your continued support this season.

To Matt our pool manager, thanks mate for all of your support.

Another thank you must go out to all of our sponsors; Newmont Boddington Gold, South 32, Boddington Thrifty Link Hardware, Little Envy Café, Hotham Butchery, BP service station, Contract Aquatic Services, Shire of Boddington, DSR and Heather and the team at the Boddington News. Without your support the season would have been extremely difficult.

Notable highlights:

Boddington has been well represented at 12 individual swim meets this season, including Regional Swim Meet at York, Country Pennants at Moora and the Indian Ocean All Stars (International) swim meet in Perth.

Our swimmers performed extremely well in all of the above meets, Boddington swim club’s second place in D grade at Moora Country pennants being a great way to finish the season. Our swimmers netted 17 x gold medals, 12 x silver medals and 18 x bronze medals at this meet alone.

We also have two new state qualifiers to represent Boddington, Krosby Readhead who has qualified in 4 events as well as Kele Readhead who has qualified in three events. Krosby and Kele will join Calia and Izak Vlastuin in representing Boddington at the WA State long course championships in April 2016.

A special mention must go to one of our members Natalie Ferguson who I think exemplifies the spirit of the Boddington Swimming Club. Natalie is one of our longest serving members. Due to further education, Natalie has had to change schools and this has made it difficult for her to train consistently. This has not stopped Natalie from representing Boddington at various swim meets this season. Natalie always gives 110% and is an ideal role model for our younger swimmers. A huge thank you to your whole family for your continued support.

February 2016 saw the start of the Boddington Swimming School, with over 60 registrations this has been a huge success. Adult classes will be offered in term four of 2016, alongside the Infant Aquatics for babies and toddlers, as well as the learn to swim classes for the youngsters.

To all of our coaches and learn to swim teachers, a huge thanks for your hard work and dedication.

To the Boddington Swimming Club committee, thanks for our most successful season to date and I look forward to working with you in the future.

Lastly I would like to thank the Boddington community for all of your support; you have truly made this club a great success.

For the upcoming 2016/2017 season we have had two new members join the Boddington Swimming Club Committee. They are Janet Gowland and Clare Smailes. Janet and Clare we welcome you aboard and look forward to working with you in the 2016/2017 season.

Boddington Swimming Club scoops the pool at the Great Southern Swimming Championships in York!

On Saturday 6th February 2016, a team of 26 competitive swimmers from the Boddington Swimming Club travelled to York, to participate in the Great Southern Regional Swim Meet.

Other Clubs that represent the great Southern Region are Albany, Mount Barker, Narrogin, Lake Grace, Wagin and York.

The Boddington Swimming Club had a great meet with the majority of swimmers bringing home medals in both individual and relay events.

Time Trials 22nd January 2016

Given the small number of members who attended the most recent club night, it was fantastic to see no less than 13 new records go on the board. There were another 8 new records for 25m events. This is a new category to recognise our 7 & 8 year olds who have only just commenced swimming as a sport. The 7&U and 25m categories will be added to the board soon. Over the course of the season, all events and distances listed on the board will be offered at our club nights (mini meets). Hopefully we can fill every slot on the board with names!
