It took some time for eleven year old Calia to work up the courage to decide if she would participate in the 1500m swim at Bunbury Carnival recently. I am pleased to say that her decision paid off, winning a silver medal for her effort. She is only one of eight 11-year old girls to have completed this event in the past 12 months (national statistics), and the only 11-year-old Western Australian female to record a time so far this season (2015/16), competing against 17- and 13-year-old boys and a 14-year-old girl in Bunbury.
Earlier in the day Calia also managed to record her personal best in the 50m freestyle, alongside her brothers Caleb and Izak. Those boys didn’t leave empty handed either, with Caleb bringing home 1 gold, 1 silver and a bronze medal and Izak proudly walking out with 1 gold and 2 silver medals. Both boys also recorded personal bests for their 50m freestyle swim!
Congratulations Vlastuin family!
